Colorado Springs author Ruth Obee will present a power point program highlighting her new book, History in Stone: The Story of Red Rock Canyon. Over ten years in the making, Mrs. Obee's book provides a detailed history of Red Rock Canyon from primeval times to its present day status as a city open space. What made the past interesting includes the rocks themselves, indigenous animal life and different Indian tribes. In addition, the changes that came with gold hunters and settlers, the quarrying of the Red Rock sandstone, the landfill, and many colorful individuals all add to its’ unusual past. The roughly 790-acre property was owned for over 80 years by the Bock family, and it was an uphill citizen fight that saved it from development. "What strikes me about it, is that its history is as multi-layered as the rocks themselves", said Ruth in a recent interview. Copies of her book will be for sale and signing after the presentation.

We welcome visitors who enjoy Western history!
