Institutional religion has played an important role in society both individually and collectively throughout human history. Its worship, teachings, and values have been a source of comfort for the afflicted and an affliction for the comfortable. But in this age of spiritual renewal many people are finding that their faith community has ceased to nourish their souls. Religion: Help or Hindrance on the Spiritual Path will examine the components of both religion and spirituality in an attempt to discern whether they can be experienced as compatible rather than adversarial. Tom Stella is the co-founder of Soul Link, Inc., a local nonprofit whose mission is to create opportunities for spiritual seekers to meet and nourish one another’s spirituality.

Stella is a visiting associate professor in the religion department at Colorado College, a hospice chaplain, spiritual director, retreat facilitator, and the author of two books: ”The God Instinct” and “A Faith Worth Believing.” He holds graduate degrees in theology (University of Notre Dame), counseling (University of Michigan), and spirituality (Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley). Armstrong Hall, room 234.
