During these years, my Mommoni (a nickname for grandmother in the Farsi language) passed away of liver cancer. As I was not able to mourn her passing with my family, this was very hard on me emotionally. Going back to Iran and visiting my grandmother’s house and photographing family allowed me to mourn her death years later. Not only are these photographs fulfilling my personal need to grieve but they are also conveying a sense of love, life, and culture. My ultimate goal in producing these works is to elicit an intimate insight into a different way of life that in actuality is not so different, as all cultures value family and community, albeit through a variety of traditions."
