This short course covers the mechanics of making a painting: what do I need; what brands of paint; what kinds of brushes, canvas, solvent; what are the characteristics of oil paint? What do I want to paint – and how do I lay in the paint? When and how do I use a “medium,” and when should I varnish? Oil paint is patient. Its creamy, slow-drying qualities give the student maximum time to study the process and make decisions...
