Performed by three local organizations (Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, Colorado Vocal Arts Ensemble, Colorado's Classical Youth Ballet) and presented by two others (The Colorado Springs School and the Colorado College Summer Festival of the Arts)- The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore is an engaging parable of the abuse of power, the tyranny of fashion and the neglect of the artist. Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Unicorn, the Gorgon, and the Manticore was first perfromed in 1956 by the New York City Ballet. Intended for choral ensemble, chamber orchestra and dance, the work is rarely performed with the prescribed ballet.
