You may not recognize the name Thomas McLaren, but if you've lived in the Pikes Peak region for any time, you surely recognize his architectural style. Most of MacLaren's work is still standing in Colorado Springs and throughout the state, including Colorado Springs City Hall, City Auditorium, Grace Episcopal Church, Sacred Heart Church, and the Orchard House at Rock Ledge Ranch. MacLaren brought artistic creativity, beauty and technological innovation to the design of public and residential buildings in Colorado Springs. From his his arrival in Colorado Springs in 1894 until his death in 1928, MacLaren defined architectural style in our City. Most of MacLaren's work is still standing in Colorado Springs and throughout the state, including Colorado Springs City Hall, City Auditorium, Grace Episcopal Church, Sacred Heart Church, and the Orchard House at Rock Ledge Ranch. Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site celebrates the life and career of noted architect Thomas MacLaren with a public exhibition of his work, as shown in stunning photos by photographer Paul Allen. The exhibit, curated in partnership with the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is on display at the Carriage House at Rock Ledge Ranch. It inspires and gives insight into to life of a man who had an enormous and lasting impact on the City of Colorado Springs.
