Miramont Castle Museum

Built in 1895 as a home for a wealthy French priest, the castle features nine distinct architectural styles and 46 rooms, including an eight-sided chapel, and the famed Drawing Room with a gold ceiling and a massive 200-ton sandstone fireplace. The Tearoom offers a lunch and tea menu. Visit in December and be awed by the outdoor Christmas lights. Guided group tours need to be reserved in advance.

      I remember as a child the visual wonders of Charles Dickens, and all the films and cards that secure Christmastime in that era. That Wonder is reawakened every time we as a family visit Miramont Castle; here it is Alive and Real. Historically, the Castle is rich in settings of the life we lived then; lace and button shoes, wood burning stoves and frisbee pie pans and stovetop pyramid toast makers,hairbrushes and hats, "secret" servants stairs, creaky floors, arched and stained glass windows, a fireplace big enough to roast a Smartcar, even a private chapel...Photographs of a time that shows the evolution of what was then to what we see now. High starched collars, greased back hair, handlebar mustaches, Beautiful Ladies in hats as big as umbrellas; a time of a graceful and ultra polite society made up of successful pioneers... Go see it , bring your kids,they get to try on Actual and Real firemen coats and hats in the new Fire Dept. Museum. And there is a cafe, as well. See Ya.. Collapse
