Through studio arts, performance, theory, scholarship, and creative uses of media and technology, students will engage in an investigative approach to the arts, where the local and global converge, where cross-fertilization inspires critical thinking, dialogue, improvisation, and where diversity of thought is intrinsic to artistic process and practice.

The Visual Art program helps you realize your unique artistic vision through an experimental, traditional and cross-disciplinary approach to art. By creating art and studying its history and theory, the program will guide you as you expand your artistic vision and thoroughly prepare you for a professional life in the contemporary art world.

Visual Art is offered as a major concentration or as a minor. There are a wide range of courses in painting, drawing, book arts, printmaking, sculpture, installation, performance, digital and darkroom photography, social practice, digital media, sound collage, and video. In addition, you are encouraged to explore collaborative practices and relationships with students and faculty in visual and performing art as well as across the campus. Studios are well equipped and include drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, darkroom photography and a state of the art Macintosh computer lab.
