Western Museum of Mining & Industry

The west comes alive at this Museum through working steam engines from the 1800’s, hands on exhibits such as gold panning, outdoor displays and much more. Discover what rocks you eat! Walk through a simulated mine shaft. Daily guided tours at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Throughout the year the Museum hosts special events for children, families and adults.

      The Mining Museum adopted their burros through the United States Bureau of Land Management’s adoption program. As the US Congress says in the Wild Horse and Burro Act, Oro and Nugget are “living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the west.” The Museum supports the donkeys (burro in English!) and its heritage and natural resource education mission with fun experiential events like this one. When you go, you’ll feed and pet the burros, here the steam shovel whistle shriek, watch an air locomotive roll, and kick up your heels to some good “old-timey” music – all in the beautiful “wet land” environment of the Museum’s property. Fun, real stuff for the whole family! Collapse

      The Mining Museum is terrific place to watch the Thunder Birds on Air Force graduation day. In many ways, it’s even better than seeing the air show from the stadium. You have a complete view of the T-Birds approach and fly out. You can track the T-Birds and anticipate their tricks. I’m certain the T-Birds use the Mining Museum’s sixty foot tower as a land mark and at times fly over the Museum very “close to the deck.” You can pack a picnic lunch. Parking is no problem and you don’t have to worry about getting in and out of the Academy. Best of all, after the show, you can tour the Museum and see the amazing contrast between technology from the 1800’s and 2011 (The Museum operates much of their gigantic equipment – it is something to see!). This is a great, educational, and inexpensive way to send an afternoon! Collapse

Even though its all fake, I almost crapped my pants! i cant get over the excitement of this amazing haunted house ... or mine. Collapse
