The Theatre Company at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center presents a diverse program of four musical productions and two plays each season. The recently renovated SaGaJi Theatre, built in 1936, offers historic Art Deco-inspired elegance with state-of-the-art sound and lighting technology.

      I am not your standard musical theatre type. I loved this show, though. Fast-paced, great, grand song and dance numbers (kudos to choreographer Mary Ripper Baker) and strong vocal performances from all, especially the title character. Again, I'd sooner see an action film (and I dislike action films) than see a musical, but this one was pretty darned good. Collapse

      What's good about the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center's mammoth new production of Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd" is as good as it gets. And that's much of it. Starting with the 21-member ensemble's ability to belt out a blood-curdlingly good score. "Sweeney Todd" is gruesome, horrible and hilarious — all at once.       Since I'm in the show, would be unfair to review ... but I wanted to say that I've performed in over 60 shows and the set designers and costume designers for this show did a marvelous job. It's a terrifically fun show and I just love the cast that I'm honored to play with. If you've never seen The Music Man, give it a go ... you are sure to smile and you'll be glad you attended!       I try not to use superlatives in describing a performance, lest I wind up sounding like a breathless, teenage groupie. When it comes to The Full Monty however, I find it impossible not to use them. It is, in a nutshell, exceptional. The pit orchestra provides seamless accompaniment to the superior voices of cast members. Set design and construction is sophisticated and clever, with scene changes happening smoothly and silently, wowing me from the start. Rarely have I seen a live performance so beautifully cast and directed. Each actor projected a character as believable as my next door neighbor (although I?ve never had a neighbor who could sing like that!)Stellar performances from all. If I had one criticism, it would be the scene between Malcolm and his mother, which seemed out of place and poorly timed, adding nothing and detracting from an otherwise nearly flawless production. A must see! Collapse
