Pikes Peak Home School Band

The Pikes Peak Home School Band provides home schooled students the opportunity to learn to play musical instruments and to perform for the general public.

Most of the financial backing for this musical organization comes from tax-deductible donations to the Pikes Peak Institute of Music (PPIOM), a non-profit Educational Organization and a public charitable organization set up specifically to support the Pikes Peak Home School Band and the New Horizons Band.

The Pikes Peak Home School Band was founded by Bill Callen in 2000. It has grown immensely since, and is the only home school band/orchestra program of it’s kind in Southern Colorado. The PPHSB allows students ages 9 through high school to perfect a wind or string instrument in a non-competitive, classroom-like setting. There are four bands – a beginning band, intermediate band for students who have played at least one year, and two advanced bands. All instruments are taught, and most students play in multiple bands on different instruments, which is a luxury most music programs do not allow.
