Double Eagle

James (Jim) McCain’s work, usually carved in wood and sometimes also cast in bronze, has an abstract quality to it. In Double Eagle the two forms are fused as one in a simplified composition, depicting something greater than a literal portrayal could. It is up to viewers to discover their own insights about nature and the universe while in the presence of McCain’s work. A world traveler and former longtime resident of Alaska, McCain credits his inspiration for his work to his childhood in rural Iowa, where he roamed the fields and woods endlessly, sketching and painting his impressions of nature along the way. McCain currently resides in Colorado.

Funds to purchase Double Eagle were raised by Community Ventures as a memorial to Mary Jean Larson, a longtime downtown business owner and arts supporter.

Date created: c. 2000
