This stainless steel pyramid, developed and funded by the El Paso County Pioneers Association, was originally envisioned to be something quite different and traditional. Early conceptions of a piece for this site intended to portray a family poised next to a prairie schooner. After much input and various commissions, a more contemporary design was chosen. The legs of the pyramid feature stylized “cut-outs” that tell numerous stories about our history while enclosing a setting sun. The sculpture is especially delightful to view at night with its ambient back lighting.
