Interstellar Wind

This mural titled “Interstellar Wind” was created in 1985 by Elizabeth Mapelli. It was commissioned for the Engineering and Applied Sciences building, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and the citizens of Colorado by the State Art in Public Places Program of the Colorado Council on the Arts and Humanities. It uses red and blue Vitrolite (a hard, hand-polished glass) along with fused and enameled glass attachments. As a focal point of the main stairwell of the Engineering and Applied Sciences building, “Interstellar Wind” engages visitors with its vibrant color. The changing light and the many vantage points create a visually stimulating work that continuously offers a unique viewing experience.
