What Makes a Community: North, East, South & West

This mural was created in 2016 by The Mural Project of Colorado Springs on the South wall of the building occupied by the Council of Neighbors and Organizations (CONO.) In part, the mission of CONO is to protect and preserve neighborhoods within the Pikes Peak region by educating, assisting and encouraging them to create strong, tolerant and diverse communities. Jennifer Ryan is the founder and President of this non-profit organization that focuses on creating murals as a collaboration between a professional artist and a specifically chosen local organization. For this mural Jennifer engaged the services of professional artist PAES164 to assist with design and partnered with a group of teachers from Teach for America and some of their students from Atlas Prep School, Fox Meadow Middle School and Harrison High School. This was a community service project for those teachers as part of their participation in the Leadership Pikes Peak program. Together they planned a mural that would show various aspect of our community and our neighborhoods including activities in the different seasons of the year as well as various neighborhood landmarks.
