Play Date

Play Date is a calendar that works like an abacus, inviting you, as the viewer, into a relationship. Its function is not to mark time, but to entice you to interact with it and move its parts—to leave a temporary private mark in a public space. Artist Melanie Piech lives in San Francisco, CA. Play Date is part of the 2013-2014 Art on the Streets exhibit, and was awarded second place by the juror. Play Date is located in north east corner of Acacia Park, and is available for purchase.

A program of Downtown Colorado Springs, Art on the Streets is presented by Founding Sponsor U.S. Bank, Supporters H. Chase Stone Trust, Nor’Wood, GE Johnson Construction Company, and Insurance Technologies. This year marks the 15th anniversary of Art on the Streets, an outdoor sculpture gallery celebrating the power of art in public places.
