Rick's Teal Mountain

This mural was painted by Drake “Drastik” Gann in 2014. The business owners of Rick’s Garden Shop located off Uintah at 19th had just recently taken over the adjacent Rick’s Nursery located about 25 feet below Uintah and they needed something to draw motorist’s attention to the nursery. The owners wanted something with both mountains and specific flowers. Drake added the bee and hummingbird. In setting the mountain ridge line Drake stood in the nursery next to the new ramp that connects the nursery to the garden shop and replicated the ridge line of the mountains seen from that vantage point. At the time the owners were having the exterior repainted so to economize on cost Drake sketched outlines of the mountains and fields and then the commercial painter did the preparation work and painted the background in the chosen colors. Drake then used his spray paint to add the clouds, flowers, birds, bees and highlights. The small windmill in the lower right of the mural is an homage to the original owner of Rick’s Nursery who had a windmill in the middle of the nursery for many years. See below for detailed photos.
