Rusty

Artist Doyle Svenby is described as a “scrap yard genius who enjoys challenging himself by creating something beautiful out of discarded objects.” He uses predominantly steel, concrete, and stone to create surprising and unexpected pieces such as Rusty, a resident snowman of Acacia Park in downtown Colorado Springs.

Rusty is, well, rusty all over except for the stone buttons, eyes, and smile. He even has a steel “carrot” nose. Svenby surprises viewers, not only with rusty “snow,” but also with Rusty holding his own head above himself with steel tree-limb arms, giving him a sort of surprised look.

The piece was donated to the City of Colorado Springs by Community Ventures.
