Juila McMinn Evans’ work begins with basic compositional shapes. Having laid a foundation, she moves into a purely intuitive mindset, which enables me to resolve tension in the composition while she leaves herself open to ideas and possibilities.

She interprets the shapes using color and texture to build layers that provide depth, light, and movement. Unconventional tools are used to create unique gestures. Organic marks lace through the layers, sometimes excavating to the base, other times floating toward the surface.

As a result of this process, many people remark on her use of color and the sense of mystery that her work evokes.
