Roughly 1.9 million viewers across the world tuned into the live broadcast to watch 315 die-hard competitors hit the tarmac, making the Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack the largest event of its kind in the world. As technology advances and teams fine-tune their setups for half-mile trap speed competitions, records stand no chance of withstanding the quest of claiming the title of King of the Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack. 'Geometry: Beyond Measure'

Presented by Cottonwood Center for the Arts at Cottonwood Center for the Arts

Sep 04 - Sep 26, 2020

Cottonwood Center for the Arts is excited to present a juried exhibition, composed of artists from across the Pikes Peak region, working across every size and medium within the theme of geometry and it’s application to the arts. Geometry is the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs. For most of history, geometry has been in dialogue with the visual arts. The use of geometry allows artists to explore endless possibilities and complex relationships of what appear to be simple or elemental shapes, lines, and points. We have asked artists to consider the use of geometry in either an abstract or representational way, integrating this mathematical language to inform their work.

CANCELED: In the Heights

Presented by Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College

Sep 24 - Oct 18, 2020

From the creator and star of Hamilton comes Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first Tony Award-winning musical, a love-letter to the community in upper Manhattan where he still lives. In The Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams, and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. A Hip Hop musical with a Salsa beat, In The Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography, and Best Orchestrations. This show is recommended for general audiences.

Cottonwood Center for the Arts is excited to present a juried exhibition, composed of artists from across the Pikes Peak region, working across every size and medium within the theme of labels and their application in the arts. A label is the branding or packaging of a product. Art and design come together to elicit emotional and physical responses about the product behind the label. From craft beers and spirits to hot sauces, a perfectly labeled bottle can compel our selection as much or more than its contents. This call for entries asks artists to create an actual label for a real or imagined product. Labels may be enlarged for display purposes and must be presented either adhered to a product or appropriately framed and wired. Alternatively, a label can be the way a person or group of people is categorized, defined, or stereotyped. Unlike product branding, this label is…

Presented by UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art at Ent Center for the Arts

Aug 25 - Nov 11, 2020

Seat of Learning is an art installation investigating time, movement, memory, knowledge, and how we learn from material objects. Gathering stories from a diverse range of individuals and objects from across the western United States and the Pikes Peak region, the artists have presented a selection as creative content for the final installation. Lackey and Lehn worked with UCCS students to create the installation, further layering the learning experience embodied by this installation. See a sneak peak here. Galleries of Contemporary Art in the Ent Center is open for scheduled visits, starting on Tuesday, August 25 through November 11. You can reserve time for up to 10 visitors total in 45 minute blocks of time in the gallery space at the Ent Center for the…
