This year at Green Box Arts Festival, the celebrated Patrick Dougherty will bring his twisting, curling branch sculpture work to the town of Green Mountain Falls. Over the last thirty years Dougherty has gained international acclaim for constructing more than 250 environmental creations of monumental scale, which require saplings by the truckloads. His sculptures have been seen worldwide — from Scotland to Japan to Brussels, and all over the United States. Harvesting of materials will be supported by local volunteers and aid in a conservation effort in partnership with Colorado Springs Utilities.
Dougherty has received numerous awards, including the 2011 Factor Prize for Southern Art, North Carolina Artist Fellowship Award, Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, Henry Moore Foundation Fellowship, Japan-US Creative Arts Fellowship, and the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.
Join Dougherty as he takes you through the evolution of his career into becoming a world-renowned sculptor of twisting, twirling branch-work. He’ll cover his creative process of elevating sticks to high art, cultivating environmental materials and inventing original, awe-inspiring interactive configurations.
