2nd Annual AAPI Fractured Fairy Tales, and International Cinderella Story Time
Welcoming children of all ages to join us as we honor Asian American/Pacific Islander Month and celebrate AAPI culture and contributions with a variety of books, authors, and artists!
On Saturday, May 15, 2021, Lil’ Miss Story Hour will partner with COATI Uprise for the 2nd Annual Asian American/Pacific Islander, Fractured Fairy Tales, and International Cinderella StoryTime event. The event promises to be a delightful and educational time for the entire family. Lil’ Miss Story Hour will be celebrating the heritage of Asian American/Pacific Islanders, as well as highlighting retellings of familiar fairy tales, including Cinderella. A variety of AAPI artists, art forms, crafts, and picture books will be explored and appreciated at this event and will include but are not limited to writing, illustrations, mathematics, music, and social experiences.
Book selections will include Eyes That Kiss in the Corners by Joanna Ho, The Snail With the Right Heart by Maria Popova, Yeh-Shen: A Cinderella Story from China by Ai-Ling Louie, The Poisoned Apple by Anne Lambelet, and Not Quite Snow White by Ashley Franklin.
Special guests will include, California-based comic book writers and actors, the Yuan Twins; Colorado Springs Artist and Musician, Autumn Jooniper; and Colorado Springs Artist and Musician, Nietzsche Oktober. Following the book readings and guest artist performances, there will be an art activity.
Story Time and special guest appearances, talks, and demonstrations will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and a small vendor fair will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Come early or stay late to shop from local AAPI vendors or peruse while the kiddos are enjoying story time. AAPI vendors will include The Yuan Twins and other local vendors to be announced. The entire event will be held outside in the alley way at COATI Uprise, but stop by Anju inside of COATI Uprise for delicious Korean food, as well. Lil’ Miss Story Hour tote bags and stickers will be available for purchase, with 50% of sales going to Saekiya to support the making of self defense kits for local AAPI community members.

The event is open to the public, however, donations are encouraged. Suggested donation is $5 and up. Donations will be accepted on site for in-person attendees.
