Accessing Clean Water: The PFAS Story in El Paso County

Dr. Eli Fahrenkrug shares info about what these chemical compounds are and how they currently affect the water in El Paso County.

PFAs are chemical compounds that are found in fire-fighting foam, Gore-tex (R) and other water-resistant fabrics, coatings on pizza boxes, microwave popcorn bags and other food packages, and Teflon (R) coatings among other things.

According to the EPA, these compounds have been widely studied. The most-studied PFAS chemicals are PFOA and PFOS. Studies indicate that PFOA and PFOS can cause reproductive and developmental, liver and kidney, and immunological effects in laboratory animals. Both ... view more »
