Aida: Ethiopian Princess (#2044)

Today we’ll focus on just one opera because it’s so good! Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida was first produced in 1871 and still remains at the top of the world’s ‘Greatest Hits.’ In fact it’s on Opera Colorado’s schedule for November in Denver. In this story of an Ethiopian princess, held captive in Egypt, you’ll hear some of your favorite tunes. You’ll also discover how Verdi managed to evoke ancient Egypt while creating characters with ‘hearts that beat, blood that is warm, sometimes hot, and passions as up to the minute as our own.’ No requirement, just a beating heart!
