Basic Sign Language Course

Lesson One:

• Participants will produce and recognize the hand shapes of the Manual Alphabet.
• Participants will acquire knowledge of the rules of American Sign Language (ASL).
• Participants will produce and recognize 24 ASL phrases.

Lesson Two:

• Participants will develop and share their name sign.
• Participants will produce and recognize signed numbers.
• Participants will produce and recognize 60 people, home, and animal signs.

Lesson Three:

• Participants will produce and recognize 60 food and description signs.
• Participants will become familiar with the linguistic continuum.

Lesson Four:

• Participants will produce and recognize 60 question and action signs.
• Participants will learn etiquette in communicating with Deaf people.

Lesson Five:

• Participants will produce and recognize 60 feeling and communication signs.
• Participants will become familiar with Deaf culture.

Lesson Six:

• Participants will produce and recognize 60 time and date signs.
• Participants will become familiar with ADA effective communication requirements.

Lesson Seven:

• Participants will produce and recognize 60 health, recreation, and location signs.
• Participants will pat themselves on the back; they now possess a basic vocabulary in Sign Language!
