Creation and Rest

Commonwheel Artists Co-op members Lori Vafiades, Kathy Sullivan, Marica Hefti, and Juanita Canzoneri explore the concepts of “Creation” and “Rest” to present this unique gallery show. The process of creating art is an attempt to bring beauty and organization out of chaos. The completion of creating allows for time of rest that refreshes and renews, allowing us to begin the cycle again.

Creation: the act of producing or causing to exist; the act of creating; engendering; the Creation, the original bringing into existence of the universe by God.

Rest: a period or interval of inactivity, repose, solitude, or tranquility

Between the four artists there is an attempt to represent these concepts through four voices, lending a unique visual harmony to the exhibit. The participants approached the theme from different vantage points to create works in their own style reflecting the dual themes of “Creation” and “Rest”, drawing on their perspective as artists as well as the Biblical perspective from Genesis 1-2.
