'Out of the Darkness: The World of Zoe Stiler'

Zoe Stiler, an artist who was blind with cataracts from birth until the age of 6, creates paintings and large illuminated lanterns hung from the ceiling to convey a dreamlike sense of light and dark.

At age 6, she underwent a series of operations that began her journey toward becoming a sighted person. The intensity of these early experiences is what shapes her art today.

In the exhibition, Out of Darkness, Zoe Stiler presents us with a picture of a world inhabited with imagery that attempts to make peace with the darkness by infusing it with light.

Zoe Stiler lives and works in Taos, New Mexico. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and has with various professional artists in New Mexico. Her illuminated works and paintings are on display in the Hollander Gallery in Santa Fe and her giant chandeliers can be seen at Taos Mesa Brewing in Taos.

The opening reception on Feb. 2 will include refreshments and live music, Mystic Sounds, performed by PPCC music faculty.
