Charles Rann begins this recital with two songs composed by Franz Schubert, the standard bearer of the “true” art song, An Die Musik (To Music) and Erlkoenig (The Erlking). Art songs of American composers, Copland, Niles and Foster, show the influence and artistic expression that came with transformation of the folk song into the “art song”. American spirituals, and songs of the American West along with a Sea Chanty parody reflect tradition and stories of unique American communities.
Saint Andrew’s Recital Series presents Charles Rann, Lyric Baritone, self-accompanied, in a program of American Art songs.
