Gateway to the East: The Evolution of Platte Avenue
Introductory slide lecture and walking tour of historic Platte Avenue – a fascinating history!
Join the Historic Preservation Alliance and the Old North End Neighborhood for Preservation Month @ Beyond, featuring two collaborative events celebrating National Preservation Month and historic preservation in the community.
Presenter: Tim Scanlon, Historian and Planner
9:30 a.m.: Begin at First Lutheran Church (1515 N. Cascade) for an informative slide lecture discussing the fascinating history of our section of the Ocean-to-Ocean Highway, from historic medians, rails to trails, historic architecture, use of local materials and much more!
10:30 a.m.: Move to the departure point for the walking tour at El Paso Street and Platte Ave. near the AT&SF Railway Overpass.
12:30 p.m.: Optional debrief at a local cafe for coffee and conversation
Please note: you will need to drive, bike or scooter to the walking tour “meet up” location half-way during the morning. The lecture begins at First Lutheran then the entire venue shifts to walking tour format. Details instructions will be provided at the event.
