The Independent Film Society of Colorado presents an encore screening of a film voted Best Colorado Feature in the Indie Spirit Film Festival.
About The Film:
This groundbreaking documentary challenges our beliefs linking growth with prosperity and fulfillment. The film explores how our attitudes toward economic, consumption and population growth prevent rational responses to mounting evidence we’ve outgrown the planet.
Colorado Springs features prominently in the film, directed by local filmmaker, podcaster and sustainability advocate Dave Gardner.
A panel discussion and Q&A session follows immediately after the film, featuring the filmmaker, a city council member, and a representative of the building and real estate development industry.
About The Panel:
Dave Gardner directed the documentary, GrowthBusters: Hooked on Growth (2011). He also produced and hosted the radio series, Conversation Earth (2015-2017). Today he hosts the GrowthBusters podcast and The Overpopulation Podcast. He has produced films for PBS and dozens of Fortune 500 companies, but in 2006 turned his attention to helping our modern, growth-addicted society rediscover what really matters in life. He ran for city council in Colorado Springs in 2009 with the platform, “Growth is creating our problems; it can’t be their solution.” He got 43% of the vote against a well-funded incumbent.
Jill Gaebler is President Pro-Tem of Colorado Springs City Council, and is serving her second term representing District 5 on City Council. She currently serves on the boards of the Pikes Peak Library District’s Foundation, the Downtown Development Authority, Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments and Homeward Pikes Peak. Jill also heads the Front Range Passenger Rail Commission. Gaebler is also a member of the Fountain Creek Watershed, Flood Control and Greenway District. She previously served as development director for Greccio Housing, co-founded Colorado Springs Charter Academy, and Homeward Pikes Peak boards.
Kevin Walker earned his masters degree in City Planning from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He was employed by the Colorado Springs City Planning Department, and has long been involved in consulting, land development, home building and politics in Colorado Springs. He currently owns Walker Schooler District Managers where he manages 24 special districts in the Pikes Peak region. He is active in the Housing and Building Association where he is the chair of the Public Policy Council. He also serves on the Board of the Trails and Open Space Coalition.
