Love all the unique hand dyed yarns and colorful rovings you see at yarn shops and online? In this class, you will learn how to create your own, using professional acid dyes and the popular hand-painting technique.
Over the course of this class, we will explore several different techniques to create variegated, tonal, speckled, and other effects in your yarn or fiber.
Come roll up your sleeves, play with color, and leave with several skeins of your very own hand-dyed yarns and fiber!
Student supply list:
- Up to 4 hanks of undyed protein (animal) fiber yarn and/or lengths of fiber (often called "roving", or more correctly, "top"). Blends are okay, but synthetics or plant fibers should total less than 25%.

- A good selection of undyed yarns and fiber is available at Knitpicks.com (search their “bare” collection). Any weight, style, or ply count for yarn is fine.
- Four 8oz. or larger jars with tight-fitting lids to store your dyestocks (recycled jars are wonderful).
- Face mask for particulates, disposable is fine
Class Level-Fascination: These classes will introduce you to a new skill, concept or technique and are open to all levels. The student may, however, be required to have a basic skill or have taken a certification class.
For example, for a flat-pattern drafting class one need not know anything about flat-pattern drafting but should have a basic understanding of the sewing machine. Any prerequisites will be listed in the class description.
