Historic Van Briggle Pottery Festival

Celebrate art and history in Colorado Springs with the Woman’s Educational Society of Colorado College!  Tour the Historic Van Briggle Memorial Pottery building – built by the wife of Artus Van Briggle, Colorado Springs’ most famous artist of the Art Nouveau period.  Tour the adjacent gardens, guided by the Horticulture Art Society.  See the Fine Arts Center’s Bemis School of Art potters throw pots on a wheel, and join the Pioneers Museum at their booth with a Hands-on-History activity and decorate your own paper tile.  The Historic Preservation Alliance will tell you how the Van Briggle building on the Colorado College campus survived fires and floods and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Purchase Van Briggle greeting cards, Patsy’s “Peanut Briggle” in commemorative tins, the Spring 2002 special Van Briggle issue reprint of Kiva magazine, and enjoy a special Van Briggle blend of Roasted! coffee.  There’s a scavenger hunt for building details for kids of all ages! All proceeds fund WES scholarships at Colorado College.
