The archetypal New York Trio, featuring internationally renowned jazz icons, is touring the western US celebrating the March release of their new Itakt recording “the Signal Maker.” Open Loose has released six CD’s and has been featured at jazz festivals around the world. All the compositions are composed by Mark Helias but the band maintains a democratic and sometime anarchistic approach to improvising. Helias is one of New York’s most prolific bassists having worked with a panalopy of icons including Edward Blackwell, Anthony Davis, Dewey Redman, Marcel Khalife, Abbey Lincoln, Oliver Lake, Andrew Cyrille, Marilyn Crispell, Julius Hemphill, Don Byron, Bobby Bradford, Barry Altshul, Ray Anderson, Don Cherry, Cecil Taylor, and Gerry Hemingway.
