Larry Hulst, Concert Photographer's Artist Talk

We have among us in Colorado Springs one of the top Rock & Roll photographers in the nation. Join him First Friday to hear the stories of the concerts and how he took those iconic photographs.

If you have never heard Larry’s tales you do not want to miss this event. You will hear stories of the great bands in their first years and later at the peak of rock and roll frenzy when they filled stadiums and Larry lived it all.

Larry Hulst has built a collection of nearly 3,000 black and white negatives that frame influential musicians spanning five decades of rock history.The hallmark of Hulst’s instantly recognizable work is the authentic ability to depict the raw energy and emotion of the concert experience. The only prop he ever needed was the stage.

“I never wanted to go backstage,” Hulst states, “I wanted to be where the action is. After all, the ‘show’ is projected out onto the audience. I wanted to shoot from the audience perspective”

His concert photography has graced the pages of Guitar Player, Rolling Stone, Time magazine, several biographies, and numerous books.

Art directors for Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton and Bruce Springsteen chose Hulst’s photography for album art. His image of Jimi Hendrix adorned the terminal walls of Los Angeles International Airport.

Later this year, an extensive collection of Larry Hulst’s work will leave on a national museum tour.

At the local level we will have a chance to see a curated collection of standout limited edition work at the this exhibit.

Larry’s Artist Talk will start at 6:00 p.m. and the free drawing for the Stevie Ray Vaughan Banner will  follow at 7:45  p.m.
