Meet Iconic Textile Designer: Ruth Adler Schnee

UCCS Heller Center for Arts & Humanities welcomes iconic textile artist Ruth Adler Schnee.

Schnee, the 2015 Kresge Foundation Eminent Artist, was a pioneer in establishing the modern look of architectural interiors. Known primarily for her fabric prints of abstract patterns of geometric and organic forms, her textiles worked to define the post-World War II sense of public space. Throughout her 70-year career, she collaborated with some of the world’s most prominent architects such as Buckminster Fuller and Walter Gropius.

Schnee (b. 1923) received her bachelors of fine arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, and her masters of fine arts from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, becoming the first woman to earn a graduate degree in architecture in 1946. With her husband, Edward Schnee, she opened Adler-Schnee Associates, which focused on home décor, interiors, and furniture.

Her work is currently on exhibit at the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center in Pueblo until April 22.
