Monoprint Exploration Series: Tin Roof

What is a monoprint? Monoprints are works on paper or fabric that can contain many of the same mediums and methods used in painting.

What’s the difference? It’s all in the matrix!

Simply put, a non-absorbent surface (the matrix) has a pigment applied to it, and that pigment is transferred to a porous surface.

A matrix can be made using a metal, plastic or gelatin plate, a re-purposed cabinet door or sheet of waxed paper. It can even be your elbow, knee, the sidewalk or the pavement.

Each class will use a different combination of inks, watercolor and acrylic paints, as well as several different mediums and surface treatments.

This class called ‘Tin Roof’ will be working with a combination of warm and cool colors.

Week 1 will concentrate on learning and exploring techniques and colors. You will be creating four, 5″x 7″ demo cards with different techniques you can refer to in week 2.

Week 2 will be spent planning, composing and creating three, 18″x 24″ works of art.

So in the end of your 2 weeks you will have a total of 7 pieces of art to take home!

The monoprint exploration series is for ages 16 and older.

Please make sure to wear your painting clothes. Aprons are provided but things can still get messy when we get inspired.
