New Art Exhibit at WMMI
Please note, this event has expired.
Art exhibit by Sarah Gjertson, “Human Imprint”, open from Sept. 7th – Dec. 8th, 2018.
Much of Sarah Gjertson’s work has explored nostalgia, American expectations of “womanhood”, and the integrated practice of using related objects and materials to elicit feelings of longing or familiarity. As part of her recent “Human Imprint” project, Gjertson visited and researched historic mining operations and town sites around Colorado, most of which are 100–150 years old. She was interested in uncovering the stories of the residue that remains at these living museums and the stories told by curious artifacts, skeletons of architectural structures, and evidence of the hand. In this exhibition of sculptures, photographs and re-purposed found objects, some of the works focus on individual women who contributed to this highly mythologized time in the American West.
