Join John Haney, founder and secretary of the Pikes Peak Trolley Museum and Restoration Shop, for an exploration of the history of the trolley system in Colorado Springs dating back to 1887.
John will also discuss the current work of the Trolley Museum and prospects for the development of a future streetcar system in the city.
About the Presenter:
John Haney grew up in the Old North End, attending Steele Elementary, North Junior, Fountain Valley School and Colorado College with a BA in Business and Banking. After serving two years as an Army officer and working four years as a Group Insurance Supervisor with the Travelers Insurance Company he married Betty and went to the University of Arizona to earn an MS in Urban Planning, followed by two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Venezuela.
Returning to Colorado Springs, he worked for the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments to initiate and manage the Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging, then became a commercial property manager with Griffis/Blessing, Inc., retiring in 2008. He now enjoys volunteering and serving on the boards of several non-profits including the Historic Preservation Alliance of Colorado Springs, the Trolley Museum, singing in the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir, traveling, writing and publishing books, and being with his wife, two daughters and four grandchildren.
