Portals are gold spaces equipped with immersive audiovisual technology. When you enter a Portal, you come face-to-face with someone in a distant Portal live and full-body, as if in the same room.
The Imagination Celebration and the What If…Festival of Imagination and Innovation are excited and proud to bring the Portal Project to Colorado Springs! This global public art initiative has been connecting people around the world since 2014.
What Is It?
“Portals” are gold spaces equipped with immersive audiovisual technology. When you enter a Portal, you come face-to-face with someone in a distant Portal live and full-body, as if in the same room. Our Colorado Springs Portal is a live connection to a variety of far flung locales including Mexico City, Mexico, Erbil, Iraq, Herat, Afghanistan, Kigali, Rwanda, Baltimore, and more, all experienced inside of a gold shipping container on the grounds of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum.
Why Is It Here?
This Portal is hosted by Imagination Celebration, producer of the annual What IF…Festival of Innovation and Imagination, as a major “what if…question” for the Summer. What IF…you could walk into the internet and talk to people around the world – in places you may not typically visit?
