Rainbow Kaleidoscope: A Celebration of Color

Ages 8-12. A 5 day workshop of color exploration. Color wheels, color mixing, color discovery in many media (colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, watercolor crayons, watercolor pencils, acrylic, art glass). How many colors can we create by mixing primary colors, red, blue, yellow?

Day 1: Color Recipes and Color Wheels – Primary, Secondary, Tertiary colors and beyond/Warm and cool colors/ Complimentaries; Color collage project

Day 2: Fused Glass Color Mix – Intro to glass as a color medium; Create a fused glass color wheel; Create one fused glass frit painting, mixing and blending and creating new colors in crushed glass

Day 3: Watercolor – Create color wheels in watercolor and watercolor crayons or pencils; Create watercolor paintings on different surfaces (watercolor paper, yupo, watercolor canvas) using the colors we have mixed as well as water soluble pencils and crayons

Day 4: Acrylic – Create acrylic paint color wheel; Monoprints in acrylic paint (paint on acrylic sheets, transfer to paper while wet)

Day 5: Drawing – Create color wheels in pastel and colored pencil; Create drawings in pastel, colored pencil and pastel pencil; Layering color, mixing on paper, overlaying media
