'Recordando Nuestra Gente: Ritual Memorialization Along the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro'

This lecture recounts a study that connects the historical route of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro that spans from Mexico City in the south to Ohkay Owingue, New Mexico, in the north and privileges cultural insidership as a cultural and community approach toward remembering and memorializing one’s history.

This lecture specifically looks at two women who died right before they completed their wedding nuptials, one in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, by the name of Pascualita in 1930, and another young woman from El Rito, New Mexico, by the name of Michelle Valdez in 1997. Their stories transcend time and physical geographic borders and specifically views how their mothers incapsulated their wedding rite within their funerary rite or ritual memorialization.
