Please join Colorado College for Dr. Williams lecture entitled “Transforming the STEM Landscape: A Lesson in Disruptive Innovation.” A reception with light refreshments will precede the talk in the lobby of Armstrong Hall.
The reception begins at 5 p.m. with talk to follow from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Talithia Williams is a multi-talented statistician, professor, speaker, and host of PBS’s Nova Wonders. Dr. Williams takes sophisticated numerical concepts, including her specialty field big data, and makes them understandable and relatable to everyone. As illustrated in her popular TedTalk, “Own Your Body’s Data,” she demystifies the mathematical process in amusing and insightful ways, using statistics as a way of seeing the world in a new light and transforming our future through the bold new possibilities inherent in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields. Formerly a NASA scientist, Dr. Williams is currently the Associate Dean for Research and Experiential Learning at Harvey Mudd College.
The lecture is this year’s Roberts Lecture, an annual endowed lecture within the Natural Sciences division at Colorado College.
