Speakers’ Bureau Lecture: Larry Frank, Jr.

Enjoy this kick off lecture with Western Museum of Mining and Industry’s former curator, Larry Frank Jr. as he discusses his book Colorado’s Great Depression Gold Rush: The Oliver Twist Tunnel.

Larry Frank, Jr. came to Colorado in 1981 as a staff engineer on the Colony Shale Oil Project in Parachute. On May 2, 1982, Exxon shut down the project, throwing thousands of people out of work and devastating the Grand Valley. After weathering the economic recession of the mid 1980s, Larry settled into a new career path at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry in Colorado Springs, where he became Curator. Later, Larry assumed the position of Director of the Colorado Historical Society’s Healy House and Dexter Cabin Museum in Leadville. Through the State Historical Society, Larry led many four wheel drive trips of Mosquito Pass and the Alma Mining District.
