Stranger Moments: The Exhibit

TwentyOne8 Gallery, hosted by Kreuser Gallery, is proud to present “Stranger Moments: The Exhibit” by Allison Daniell, Matt Mead, and Laurel Justice

The task was simple.

But not easy.

Listen to a conversation between two total strangers and then take a portrait of them that characterizes the connection that transpired between them.

It was born out of a fascination with Richard Renaldi’s Touching Strangers project in New York City, only his subjects don’t really speak to one another before their portrait is taken. The connection element that we had during Stranger Moments deeply excited me, because it meant that I had to really listen and absorb what was happening during these often meaningful, sometimes awkward conversations with people. To me, this project became less about portraiture and more about commemorating the beautiful connections that happened in real time right in front of me. It was an exhilarating challenge!
