Textiles West will launch with Tactile, a day of demos, lectures and make-and-takes on Saturday, Oct. 22. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tactile will take over Cottonwood for the day, and feature hands-on activities like felted beads, block printing, and weaving. Kids will enjoy visits from live animals, including alpacas from Wild Hair Alpacas, while adults can attend lectures like Asian textiles, presented by Judy Arndt, and plantation slave weaving, presented by Mary Madison.
Cottonwood Center for the Arts is proud to present Textiles West, a new entity devoted to fiber art, design and education. Also a co-working space, Textiles West aims to inspire widespread awareness, participation and appreciation of fiber art with classes, tools and resources for artists, makers and artisans. Currently, only two other entities in North America offer services similar to Textiles West, TAC in New York City and Textile Center in Minneapolis.
