The MAC will be a proud participant in the Pollinate Biennial Arts Festival, sponsored by GOCA and UCCS! This year’s theme is “Time”, and accordingly we will be soliciting entries into our free, community-oriented gallery for this unique theme. Pollinate is a citywide arts festival, with galleries across the Pikes Peak region participating.
At the MAC, the title of the show, “Tempus Edax Rerum”; is from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, and translates to “Time, Devourer of all Things”. Participation in the themed show is entirely optional, and as always, anyone is welcome to submit work.
Due to the overwhelming support and popularity of the 1st Amendment show, we are asking artists to submit 2 pieces at a maximum. We are overjoyed to have such a rich and large assortment of incredible work being presented in the 1st Amendment gallery. The sheer amount of material being presented is making it difficult to display the work properly. In order to give each piece space to breathe, we have to put a limit on the amount of work we can take in. This is a great testament to all of our members’ hard work, passion, creativity and willingness to display with us!
About Pollinate
Pollinate is a biannual arts collaboration that convenes arts organizations in Southern Colorado to explore one compelling theme through exhibitions, events, and experiences every two years. In 2019, the theme is “Time”. Pollinate promises to connect the region to its past and future, seeking to demonstrate the power of the arts in collaboration through a one-week festival of events April 1 – 8, 2019, across the Pikes Peak region; programs will take place from mid-March to mid-May. Events include themed exhibitions, live music and dance performances, panel discussions, mash-up talks, film screenings, significant speakers, and more. Visit PollinateCOS.com for details on specific exhibits and events at participating venues.
The project originated in 2011 when the Galleries of Contemporary Art at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (GOCA) and the Interdisciplinary Experimental Arts program at Colorado College (IDEA) collaborated with area arts organizations on a series of community-wide events that explored the impact of pollinators on our culture and ecosystem. Two years later, the project reconvened under the heading of “Gods and Monsters”, and two years after that the Festival explored the theme of “Energy”. Pollinate has experienced healthy growth in the Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs communities in its past three iterations, cross-pollinating audiences and elevating awareness of the arts in our region.
Past collaborators include: Colorado College, UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art (GOCA), Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Pioneers Museum, Smokebrush, Manitou Art Center, Pikes Peak Community College Downtown Studio Gallery, Mountain Fold Books, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Colorado Springs Dance Theater, and the Story Project.
