The Aperçu Soirée ("glance/glimpse/view/opening reception") for this exhibition will be held on Saturday, April 12th from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Admission to the Aperçu Soirée is free, the art is sensational, food bites from Potato Potato and more to play with and the wine/craft beer/cocktail menu a delight to explore!
The Spotlight Gallery at Soirée is designed to offer artists the opportunity to present focused exhibitions and the public the opportunity to immerse themselves in a body of work created by one or two artists.
ARTIST STATE OF MIND IN CREATION
Audrey Gray
"Each of my paintings is made of natural materials – primarily earth, sand, and mica, coal and sometimes other natural ephemera. All of my colors are real earth that I have gathered myself from various places including Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and California. In this exhibition, the mica is primarily from Brazil as well as Main. The goal of my work is to cultivate connection with the earth, both in myself and in others – a critical step in creating the balance that is necessary in order for our planet and its life forms to flourish. If we have no relationship or bonding with the earth, the actual stuff of it, and see no beauty in it, there is no reason to save it. Only by recognizing WHAT we live on and appreciating and loving it, can we be motivated to take steps to save it for ourselves and future generations."
Frank Gray
"As a fifth generation Coloradan, my work reflects the culture in which I was raised. Simplicity, utility, beauty and modest price are my guidelines, and my primary inspiration is traditional pottery from all cultures. For this exhibition, rather than making ware for the contemporary art market, I celebrated the history and culture of ceramic work. I used a wide variety of glazes and my work ranges from vases and candlesticks to burial urns. Most of my functional work is stoneware, while my decorative pieces are raku or sagger fired."
