The Day the Forest Burned (Rescheduled Program)

The Palmer Lake Historical Society program on the Black Forest fire has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at 7:00 P.M. at the Palmer Lake Town Hall.

Terry Stokka, Chairman of the Black Forest History Committee, will discuss the causes that led up to the severe fire danger and take you through the days of the fire and the ongoing recovery. This is a compelling story of heartbreak and survival, as well as a glimpse into the positive spirit of the people of Black Forest who are rebuilding in surprising numbers, considering the devastating damage to their homes and community. This is a cautionary tale for all of us who live in Colorado's woodlands. Also, on March 20, 2014, at 7:00 PM at the Palmer Lake Town Hall, the Society presents “Doctor at Timberline – Medicine in the Late 1800s and Early 1900s.” John Stansfield, popular story teller and historian, will portray Dr. Charles Fox Gardner, a leader in the early days of tuberculosis treatment in the Pikes Peak region These events are free and refreshments will be served after the presentation.
