In anticipation of Opera Theatre of the Rockies’ upcoming main stage production of Verdi’s “Aida” set for May 10, 12 and 13, the company will offer a free Town Hall discussion about “Race and Colonialism in Traditional Opera Presented to Contemporary Audiences.”
This free open discussion will focus on racial, religious and cultural differences that exist in traditional opera and how producers and directors stay true to the composer's vision while being culturally sensitive of contemporary audiences.
Elements of this issue include how opera producers and directors stay true to the composer’s artistic intent in casting talented artists and developing an inspired stage direction on the one hand, while connecting with contemporary sensibilities.
