Question:  What do the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument and the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine have in common?

Answer:  Both resulted from volcanic activity millions of years ago!

The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument will host an informational sidewalk display in Cripple Creek on Saturday, July 25, outside the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company’s Visitor Center, located at 371 Bennett Avenue, (ELKS Building), Cripple Creek, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The display and information, called “Treasures From Below”, is sponsored by the Friends of the Florissant Fossil Beds and the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company.

Join the Friends of the Florissant Fossil Beds at the CC&V Visitor Center to learn more about how Cripple Creek’s gold and Florissant’s fossils both originated from volcanic activity in this area.  Learn how fossils are now providing a wealth of information about the climate 34 million years ago. Hear how paleontologists have discovered similarities and differences between the past and modern ecosystems at Florissant and how this relates to changes in climate.

Step into the CC&V Visitors Center and learn more about the volcanic origins of the gold deposits discovered by Bob Womack and mined by some of Colorado’s most famous pioneers.  And also learn about CC&V’s current, modern mining operations.
